«Light Beyond Magic» (Ju Guang Qi Ying) – The Story of Tainan

At the start of 2013, Tainan, the cultural capital, once again created a miracle with a large New Year art performance. Stunning, creative 3D projection mapping fully revealed the endless charm of Greater Tainan: its nature, culture, intellect and fun! The “Ju Guang Qi Ying – 3D Magic Light and Sound Show” was staged at the Yonghua Civic Center plaza on the evenings of the third to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year (February 12–14).

The Wonders of Art team that created the 3D audiovisual projection for the Tainan City Government was led by Ms. Serina Chen, who was named one of the world’s best curators by the European Festivals Association and directed the musical Window of the City, the only thematic show of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. She gathered animation masters from home and abroad, including animation director Chen Yau, who has supervised the special effects of several Hollywood blockbusters and won a SIGGRAPH award for animation in the arts category, and Franc Aleu, a master of visual animation who won the 2012 Premis Nacionals de Cultura of Catalonia in the visual arts category. Together, with great creativity, perfect understanding and excellent production, and with the high standards of their earlier international works and façade projections, they offered the people of Tainan the most interesting Spring Festival gift, making the colourful Civic Center a symbol of the old capital’s new-year vitality and fresh look.
